Feedback & DJ support from:

Francois K – “I like the Sandwell District mix the best from the bunch, however I haven’t had a chance to try it out on a big room system. When I do I’ll let you know how it goes.”

Paul Woolford – “Darko Esser is one of the good guys and I’m always keen to hear his material. Will be playing Peter Van Hoesen’s mix out of these, that foreboding atmosphere he’s conjured here is perfect scene-setting material for my techno-led sets. Many thanks.”

Kevin Gorman – “Apols for slow response, writing lots of music at the moment, not really listening to promos much.. but had a listen and they are nicely produced tracks, will do very well no doubt ☺ Darko is a super cool guy, always makes interesting records.”

Christian Smith – “I’m not a big fan of the retro 1990’s techno sound. I was the first time around, so now I’m looking more forward. Having said that the Sandwell District remix is pretty evil and nice. Will play it!”

release schedule after the summer http://www.wolfskuilrecords.com/?page=soloview.php&id=68

Hey everybody,

Here’s an update in regards to fresh aftersummer releases. I have decided to start a sublabel called Wolfskuil Ltd. Over the last few months I received so many wicked tracks from up and coming producers, who have a small or even no discography at all. It was impossible to fit everything in the Wolfskuil releaseschedule, so a subdivision dedicated to new talent was a logical step to take!
I am also very excited about 2 international signings to the label. Paul Brtischitsch (who co-produced Anja Schneider’s excellent debutalbum on Mobilee) and the youngster with the mature sound, Tommy Four Seven, have joined the Wolfskuil family. Welcome guys!

Here’s what’s coming up in august & september:

Wolfskuil Records
WOLF014 Paul Brtschitsch – Bridge Itch (august 2008)
WOLF015 Tommy Four Seven – Deer Code + Darko Esser Balans Remix (september 2008)

Wolfskuil Ltd
WLTD001 Jarno – Sleepless (august 2008)
WLTD002 Thomas Lauren – Limit Life + Juan Sanchez Remix (september 2008)

Take care & enjoy the upcoming summer!

WOLF012 Review on 365mag.com http://www.wolfskuilrecords.com/?page=soloview.php&id=65

The first review for Giorgos Gatzgristos’ new piece of art is online now on 365 Mag Big shout to the crew for the support!

PROPER LATIN USAGE
Artist:Giorgios Gatzigristos
Label :Wolfskuil Records
Rating:8.0 out of 10.0
Released:2008-05-26
Type:Single/Vinyl

If there’s one label that cannot be blamed for releasing too little, it would be Nijmegen based Wolfskuil Recordings. In its relativily short existence, the imprint has made quite a name for itself with a palette of high quality tunes. Label honcho Darko Esser seems to have a great sense of signing and releasing cutting edge artists, as this fresh release by local talent Giorgios Gatzigristos is another heavy hitter…

First off is the original mix of Proper Latin Usage, which takes off with a delicious double deep bass-line, funky claps and rhythmic shakers. A throbbing synth melody soon enough takes over, adding a great deal of musical mystery to the track. There are some great breaks to be heard in this track, but the real power comes from the many cool sounds used. Multiple bass-lines, lots of synth snippets and vivid effects on the side make this an intense groover. A very deep track with a thick vibe surrounding the sequence, best played in smokey, intimate techno clubs…

On remix duties is Kevin Gorman, who squeezes out a Detroit-influenced tracker with deep kicks, irregular drums and a bass-line that goes right under the skin. The many filtered effects make this one a real hypnotizing affair, and at some points it did remind me of DJ Rolando’s earlier productions. Another filthy techno tune that penetrates the very depths of one’s soul!

Two thumbs up for this one! Proper Latin Usage has become an impressive showcase of Giorgios Gatzigristos skills, with Kevin Gorman providing an ace remix. Detroit Diggers and deep-tech heads should definitely check this one out!

WOLF011 | DJ Yellow - too much of nothing http://www.wolfskuilrecords.com/?page=soloview.php&id=59

artist: DJ Yellow
title: Too Much Of Nothing
cat nr.: WOLF 011
format: 12” vinyl
release date: 7th of april 2008
file under: Techno/ House
tracks:
A1 Too Much Of Nothing
AA1 Medium

Wolfskuil records returns the 31st of march with a fresh slice of vinyl from none other then legendary house & techno producer DJ Yellow from Paris. In the rapidly evolving scene of electronic music, there are few DJ’s that have seen the beginning, and even fewer that have maintained their position as forward thinking musicians over the last decades. It is without a doubt that DJ Yellow is among these select few.

With influences that range from the bells of Mike Oldfield to the beats of Jeff Mills, the depths of James Holden to the drive of Josh Wink, its Yellow’s signature blend of hypnotic techno and deephouse that he is respected for. With both drive and melancholic strains apparent in his works, Yellow is a master at weaving melodies and grooves that continue to hypnotize and energize over the course of a night. He is considered one of the godfathers of the French house scene since the early 80’s and has continued his legacy through his own Poussez! Music imprint and the Alienation & Intermission series.

The 2 tracks on his first ever release on a Dutch label have the typical DJ Yellow trademarks written all over it. The title track with it’s uplifting drumpatterns, driving bassline and haunting strings and melodies is peaktime material for anyone who likes to go deep without loosing energy in his or her set. Medium is build around a series of complex and deeply emotional melodies, taking things down a notch. The track is mechanical soul and funk of the best kind and it presents an ideal moment to reflect on the night and taking the music deeper and deeper into the morning.

Early DJ Support comes from:

Josh Wink, Laurent Garnier, Sasha, Danny Howells, Dixon, Hernan Cattaneo, Claude VonStroke, Ivan Smagghe, Nick Warren, Yousef, Marco V, Gregor Tresher, Hector Romero, Jimpster, Benny Rodrigues, Warren Fellow, Darko Esser, Djinxx, Alex Santos, Layo, Jennifer Cardini, Secret Cinema, Tricksi, Rene Amesz, Phil Kieran, Nuno Dos Santos, Dave Mothersole, Dirt Crew, Vince Watson, Silicone Soul, DJ Deep, Fish Go Deep, Onionz, Konrad Black, Deadset, Chymera, Terry Farley, Demon Days, Dave Ellesmere, Paolo Mojo, Toni Rios, Claudio Coccoluto, Wally Lopez, Alan Sommerville, James Talk, Alexander Koning, Piet van Dongen, Sebastian Davidson, Dualton, Giorgos Gatzigristos, Brent Roozendaal, Camiel, Tundra, Bart Thissen

Review WOLF010 on Resident advisor http://www.wolfskuilrecords.com/?page=soloview.php&id=58

Hey everybody,

There’s a review on the ultracool Resident Advisor website from The Return Of The Hummingbird EP on my label Wolfskuil Records. Big thanx to the RA crew for the support!

There’s always been an efficient quality to Darko Esser’s productions. He gets the most out of every melody, squeezing and torquing his riffs through countless effects, until there’s nothing left but a pulpless rind in the end. It’s this studio skill, devoid of pointless bells and whistles, that’s most endearing about his sound.

Esser’s latest 12-inch, The Return of The Hummingbird, is very much in this vein. Reminiscent of Kerri Chandler, A-side ‘The Return’ is a joyous deep house track with syncopated claps and deep kicks in its engine room. It’s a simple idea, much like his and Benny Rodrigues’ gem from last year, ‘Paradox’, with a gorgeous tidal melody building and ebbing throughout. It’s a guaranteed crowdpleaser.

On the flip, ‘Hummingbird’ is more expansive and soaring, rife with woodblocks and summertime smiles, but a tumbling electro lead line changes it’s direction, taking you from a sun-bathed balcony by the beach to the sweaty dancefloor. But best is the big breakdown, which feels like a gigantic wave crashing and pummeling you towards the bottom of sea.

The feedback sheet for this release was around two pages long, but I’ll spare you what the DJs are saying. In short, this release is pretty damn good. It’s like a cold beer on a hot day. It’s like a Rose Byrne movie on a lonely night. Nothing too complicated, just two great tracks that will make you smile.

Wolfskuil will be back 3rd of march! http://www.wolfskuilrecords.com/?page=soloview.php&id=56

After a period of silence Wolfskuil Records is back with a fresh & fully packed schedule for the first half of 2008. Labelowner Darko Esser will be doing the kick-off for a new set of releases. Last year has been a most succesfull one for Darko with releases on high profiled imprints such as Ovum, Underwater, Manual and Luxaflex. His records are being played out by respected key players on the international circuit and have received excellent response in the media. This year is promising to be even better with upcoming releases on Curle, Stolen Moments and Poussez as well as a string of remixes due for release before the summer.

The new Wolfskuil Records entitled ‘The Return Of The Humming Bird’is a double A-sided 12” record harbouring two deep techhouse floorfillers with Detroit influenced melodies and deep funky grooves as key elements. ‘Hummingbird’ is a 10 minute epic search for balance between contrasts. Emotion-ridden strings clash with disturbing frequency breakdowns and warm soothing basslines end up exploding in your face. ‘The Return’ reminds of the early days of house and techno music. Old school stabs, chords and drumpatterns are combined with modern day grooves and synthprogramming. The theme is simple, catchy and bound to stuck in ones head and makes ‘The Return’ hard to resist.

      WOLF005 released http://www.wolfskuilrecords.com/?page=soloview.php&id=14

Wolfskuil Records Bart Thissen – Muzik (WOLF 005) has hit the stores. It contains 2 tracks from Bart and a remix from DJ LL.

Bart Thissen is a new dj-producer in the ever expanding electronic music scene from our hometown Nijmegen. Though he just started making music recently, he is already kicking ass, as you can judge for yourself from the audiosamples in the release section! His style? A bit of funky techno and clickhouse and a whole lot of Bart! DJ LL provided a techno remix of Bart’s Turn U on which will surely hit the dancefloor.
